President Obama wants Congress to end certain tax breaks for the very wealthy. In response, Senate Democrats introduced legislation that would require those earning $1 million annually to pay no less than 30 percent in taxes. The bill faces Republican opposition, and is likely to be an election year issue.

Last year it looked like stricter controls would be put in place to limit workers’ exposure to dangerous silica dust. But for almost a year, the proposed regulations have been stalled at the White House Office of Management and Budget. Worker safety advocates are growing frustrated, but industry stakeholders say current regulations are sufficient.

ewt Gingrich ended his campaign against Mitt Romney in Florida with the same message strategy that Romney’s senior advisers had used in another Republican primary two years earlier: Attack Goldman Sachs. There was a good reason.Amid the orange groves and senior centers, the successful investment bank served as Gingrich’s red meat for the right. “You look at Goldman Sachs, which was the number one funder of Obama; now they’re the number one funder of Romney,” he told CBS News, just a day before the polls closed. “I think…

The Susan G. Komen Foundation’s decision to remove funding from Planned Parenthood has set off a storm of criticism. Katha Pollit of The Nation says it’s pretty shocking that Komen would deprive women of services it has itself admitted they have no other way of getting.

WASHINGTON — Mitt Romney can argue that winning ugly is still winning, especially in a contest he could not afford to lose. But Romney's decisive victory in Florida came at a price. He aggravated Newt Gingrich's hostility to him, with all the trouble that could entail, and left behind a dispirited Republican electorate in a state the GOP needs to win this fall.At least until now, this primary process has weakened rather than strengthened Romney. It has sowed doubts that he has any understanding of how average people live, and opened up a slew of questions about his personal wealth…
